About Us Alpha-1 Kids' mission is to provide information to parents of Alpha-1 infants, children, and adolescents about the problems and prognosis of the deficiency and to provide support, information, and data about its impact during childhood. Our organization was founded upon the diagnosis of an infant with Alpha-1 and the collaboration of family, friends, physicians, and business associates. The members of Alpha-1 Kids want to provide complete information and support to families hearing the diagnosis for the first time and to those who have been coping with the deficiency for years. It is our goal to use our website and newsletter to reach as many families as possible. We realize that these avenues are not immediate and sometimes a call can solve many concerns. As a result we have two lines avaiable for you to contact us. The toll free line is 887-346-3212 and the line directly to Mark Rabush is 410-227-9524. If you would prefer to email the address is info@alphs1kids.org.
One of the many ways Alpha-1 Kids helps Alpha-1 families is to increase awareness about the condition. Increased awareness and education of professionals concerning Alpha-1 often results in earlier diagnosis, a larger pool of diagnosed children, and increased funding for research. We hope to increase the awareness of Alpha-1 through our publications, our direct contacts with the pediatric community, a DVD Series created in cooperation with the Alpha-1 Association, and through Alpha-1 Families bi-monthly telecalls. Finally, we are funding programs to assist those who will need a liver transplant. We want to be able to provide assistance with food, toiletries and items to make the process, usually away from home, easier on the families. Additional information requests should be directed to info@alpha1kids.org. This is also a reminder to those families of affected children to get tested. For a private, secure blood test please contact the Medical University of South Carolina (1-877-886-2383). For information about our Alpha-1 Kids Board Members, click here.
